# Board widget

The **Board** widget is a whiteboard of **sticky notes** inside a room — colored cards you write on, drag around and group into **zones**. Use it for the loose, collaborative parts of a deal that don't fit a table: open questions, a brainstorm from the workshop, a "you / us" split of responsibilities, a parking lot for later.

> Think FigJam, scoped to one section of the room, and editable by anyone you've given edit rights to.

## How to add

1. On the **floating build bar** at the bottom of the editor, open the **⌄ All widgets** popover and locate **Board**.
2. Drag it onto the target section.
3. A starter board drops in with two zones — **Not done** and **Done** — and three sample notes (*Draft the proposal*, *Review with the team*, *Kick-off call*). Rename, rewrite or delete them.

## The toolbar

Across the top of the board:

- **Add note** — drops a new note on the canvas. You can also **double-click the board** anywhere to add a note there.
- **Add zone** — adds a titled area to group notes.
- **Grid** / **Free** — the layout mode (see below).
- **Tidy** (Free mode only) — *Tidy cards into a grid*: snaps every note back into a neat arrangement.

## Notes

- Click a note to select it, double-click to edit the text (*Type something…*). Click outside to finish.
- A selected note shows a small toolbar: five **colors** (yellow, blue, green, pink, neutral) and **Delete note**.
- Drag a note to move it. Drop it inside a zone to file it there, or onto the open canvas to leave it loose.
- Notes outside a zone sit at a slight tilt, like real stickies; inside a grid zone they straighten up.

## Zones

Zones are labeled containers that pack left-to-right, never overlap, and grow as you add notes.

- Click the zone title to rename it.
- Drag the zone header to move the zone (its notes come with it); drag the right edge to resize its width.
- **Add note to this zone** (the **+** in the zone header) creates a note directly inside.
- **Remove zone** deletes the container only — its notes are kept and released onto the canvas.
- An empty zone shows *Drop notes here*.

## Grid vs. Free layout

| Mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
| **Grid** — *Auto-arrange cards, no overlap* | Notes inside a zone snap into slots and reflow as you add, remove or drag them. A placeholder shows where a dragged note will land. |
| **Free** — *Place cards freely, overlap allowed* | Notes stay exactly where you drop them, even stacked. Use **Tidy** to clean up. |

Start in **Grid** for lists and kanban-style boards; switch to **Free** for clustering and affinity mapping.

## What buyers see

Viewers see the board as you left it, with notes and zones, and can read every note. Editors (on your side or a buyer you've made an **Editor**) can add, move and edit notes — which is the point when the board is a shared workspace: put it in a room where the buyer is an Editor and let them fill in their own column.

## When to use

- **Mutual to-do split** — zones *Us* / *You* / *Done*; each side owns its notes.
- **Workshop output** — dump the post-its from the discovery session and cluster them in Free mode.
- **Open questions** — a running parking lot both sides add to between calls.
- **Stakeholder map** — one note per person, zones per department or stance.

## Tips

- Keep notes short — a board reads at a glance or not at all.
- Colors carry meaning if you decide what they mean: pick one for risks, one for decisions, one for questions, and say so in a Text widget above the board.
- For a structured action plan with owners, dates and status, use the [Steps widget](https://katalyz.crisp.help/en/article/steps-widget-1lw6u7i/) instead; the board is for what isn't structured yet.
