# Voiding an envelope

Sometimes you need to stop a signing process that's already underway — wrong document uploaded, wrong signer email, terms changed, deal fell through. In Katalyz this is called **voiding** the envelope.

## What voiding does

**Voiding** an envelope:

- **Immediately halts all signing activity** — recipients can no longer sign
- Marks the envelope as **Voided**
- Notifies all recipients that the envelope was voided
- **Is irreversible** — a voided envelope can't be reopened or edited

Any signatures captured before the void remain part of the envelope's record, but the envelope as a whole has no legal effect — no final sealed PDF is generated.

## When voiding is available

Only envelopes in **Awaiting signatures** can be voided.

| Status | What to do instead |
|---|---|
| **Draft** | Nothing to void — it hasn't been sent. Edit it, or close the editor without adding anything to discard it |
| **Signed**, **Declined**, **Expired**, **Voided** | Already final — nothing to void |

## How to void an envelope

1. Open the envelope (in the room, or from the **Pending** tab of the **Signatures** page).
2. Choose **Void**.
3. Confirm.

The envelope moves to **Voided** and shows up under the **Completed** tab of the Signatures page. Recipients are notified by email.

## When to void vs. when to wait

| Situation | Action |
|---|---|
| Typo in the document — you need a new version | **Void**, then create a new envelope with the corrected document |
| Wrong email for one signer | **Void** and recreate — a sent envelope is locked |
| Contract terms changed | **Void** and create a new envelope |
| Signer is dragging their feet | Let **automatic reminders** run, or nudge them in the room — don't void |
| Sent by mistake | **Void** immediately |

## Cost

## Restarting quickly

Voided envelopes stay in your **Signatures** list for your records. To redo the envelope with small changes, create a new one:

- **From a signature template** — the roles, fields and variables come back pre-filled; you only match roles to people again. See [Signature templates](https://katalyz.crisp.help/en/article/signature-templates-ybd6ym/).
- **From scratch** — **+ New envelope** → **Start from scratch**, re-upload the corrected document and add the recipients.

## Who can void

Anyone who can edit the room where the envelope lives can void it. Workspace **Admins** can void any envelope in the workspace.
