# Room themes

> 🚧 **Coming soon.** Named, reusable room themes (create / duplicate / set default) are on the roadmap but not yet shipped. Today, workspace-wide visual defaults live in the **workspace Design tab** instead. This article will be expanded once the themes system ships.

## What exists today

Workspace-wide visual defaults are configured in the workspace's **Design** tab. Open it from the left sidebar's **Design** icon. The tab groups settings into:

- **Section Defaults** — roundness, margins, padding, background color applied to new sections
- **Header** — layout & behavior of the room header (overlay mode, show title, show shadow, show sections, font size, background colors on/before scroll, text colors)
- **Color Palette** — the 5-color palette (Primary, Secondary, Accent, Background, Text). See [Color palette](https://katalyz.crisp.help/en/article/color-palette-nj3tag/).
- **Typography** — fonts and default font size. See [Typography](https://katalyz.crisp.help/en/article/typography-fonts-1tvu7wd/).

Whatever you configure here becomes the **default for every new room and template** in the workspace.

## How that propagates to rooms

The cascade is: **workspace → template → room**. The most-specific level wins.

- A new room with no template uses the workspace defaults.
- A new room created **from a template** uses the template's Design settings on top of the workspace defaults.
- Per-room overrides are limited today to the **Color Palette**. See [Per-room theme](https://katalyz.crisp.help/en/article/per-room-theme-1hv9i4t/).

## What's coming with named themes

When the themes system ships, you'll be able to:

- Create multiple **named themes** (e.g. *"Default"*, *"Dark mode"*, *"Partner co-branded"*) by bundling Header / Typography / Palette / Section defaults into a single preset.
- **Duplicate** an existing theme to make a variant.
- Mark one as the **default** for new rooms.
- Switch the theme on a specific room without losing other per-room customization.

We'll update this article when the feature is live.
