# Slack notifications are silent

Slack integration is connected, but you're not getting Katalyz notifications in Slack. Here's how to diagnose.

> **Important:** Katalyz notifications arrive as **direct messages from the Katalyz bot** in your Slack — there's no channel to configure on the Katalyz side. If you're expecting notifications in a shared team channel, that's not how it works today.

## Step 1 — Check Slack notifications are enabled in Katalyz

1. Go to **Settings → Notifications**.
2. Confirm the **Slack** master toggle is **On**.
3. Check specific notification categories you care about — their Slack checkbox should be on.

## Step 2 — Check Slack integration is connected

1. Go to **Settings → Integrations**.
2. Find Slack in the list.
3. Status should be **Connected**.

If disconnected, reconnect and re-authorize.

## Step 3 — Look for the Katalyz bot DM in Slack

In your Slack client, look in the **Direct messages** list on the left for **Katalyz** (or "Katalyz app").

- If you've never opened it, it may be tucked under **More** / **Apps** instead of your recent DMs
- Notifications land in this DM — not in any team channel

If the DM doesn't exist at all, the Slack connection wasn't completed for your user — see Step 2 and reconnect.

## Step 4 — Check Slack notification settings on your end

Slack itself may be suppressing notifications:

- Check your **Slack Do Not Disturb** status — messages still arrive but don't ping
- Check your Slack workspace's notification preferences
- Check device-level notification permissions (especially on mobile)
- Also check your Slack workspace notification preferences for **apps / DMs** specifically

## Step 5 — Verify the event actually fired

Some Katalyz notifications only fire when specific events happen:

- **"Buyer opened room"** — only fires when a buyer actually opens it
- **"Task completed"** — only fires when marked done

If no trigger event occurred, no notification is sent. Check the relevant room's Activity tab to confirm the event you expect actually happened.

## Step 6 — Frequency settings

In **Settings → Notifications**, check your **Slack frequency** setting:

- **Instantly** — notifications fire per event
- **Daily** — bundled into one message at the end of the day
- **Never** — no Slack notifications

If you're on **Daily**, notifications arrive in one batch, not real-time. If you're on **Never**, getting nothing is expected.

## Step 7 — Try a test event

Trigger a known event to verify the pipeline:

1. Open a test room
2. Add a comment or complete a task
3. Check if the notification arrives in the **Katalyz** DM in Slack within a few minutes (instant mode)

## Step 8 — Reconnect Slack

Sometimes a full disconnect + reconnect clears stuck state:

1. **Settings → Integrations** → Slack → **Disconnect**
2. Wait a minute
3. **Connect** again
4. Re-authenticate
