# Typography — fonts

Fonts do a lot of brand work quietly. Get them right once and every room automatically feels on-brand.

> ⚠️ Requires org role **Admin**. Go to **Settings → Branding → Typography**.

## Three font slots

Katalyz lets you pick three fonts, each with its own role:

| Font slot | Used for |
|---|---|
| **Navbar font** | Navigation, section labels, tabs |
| **Headings font** | Section titles, block titles, large callouts |
| **Text font** | Body copy — paragraphs, lists, descriptions |

Most brands use **2 fonts** in practice: one for display (headings) and one for body text. Katalyz supports 3 slots so you can differentiate navigation from content if your brand calls for it — otherwise, use the same font for navbar and headings.

## Default font size

You also set a **default font size** for body text across rooms. This propagates through all rooms unless a specific block overrides it.

Recommended: **15–16px** for comfortable readability on desktop. Smaller feels cramped; larger can feel shouty.

## Adding a font

Click **+ Add font** in the Typography section. You have two sources:

### Google Fonts
The easy option. Search the Google Fonts library (over 1,500 fonts), pick one, and it's added. Weights and styles are handled automatically.

**Good Google Fonts for Sales rooms:** Inter, Poppins, Manrope, DM Sans, Plus Jakarta Sans, Lexend, Roboto, Open Sans.

### Custom fonts
Upload your own font files — useful if your brand has a licensed typeface not on Google Fonts.

Upload the files for each weight/style combination you need:
- **Regular (400)**
- **Medium (500)**
- **Bold (700)**
- **Italic variants** if your brand uses them

Supported file formats: `.woff2`, `.woff`, `.ttf`, `.otf`.

Once uploaded, the custom font appears in the picker for each of the three slots.

## Licensing

Custom fonts must be licensed for web use. If you're not sure whether your font license covers Katalyz, check with your licensor — or use a Google Font, which is always free and permissive.

## Best practices

- **Don't mix more than 2 typefaces** in a single brand system. One for headings, one for body is usually enough.
- **Check legibility at small sizes** — some fonts look great in headlines and terrible in 13px body copy.
- **Avoid decorative fonts** for body text — they slow reading.
- **Preview changes in a real room** before saving. Fonts read differently in context than in a settings preview.
