# Using a template to create a room

Creating a room from a template takes about 10 seconds — and saves you from rebuilding structure every time.

## Create a room from a template

There are **two entry points**.

### From the New Room flow

1. Click **+ New room** in the left sidebar (or the **+ New room** button on the Rooms list).
2. A dialog asks *"How would you like to configure your rooms?"* — pick one:
   - **Quick start** — create a single room instantly.
   - **Advanced creation** — configure one or more rooms in a single flow (useful when spinning up several at once).
3. The **template gallery** opens. Browse the cards (each shows usage stats — *"Used N times. Modified X days ago"*) or search by name. Click the card you want.
   - To skip a template entirely, click **+ Start from scratch** in the top-right of the gallery — same flow, just with an empty starting point.
4. Give the new room a name. This is what your buyer sees — use the buyer's company name.
5. Confirm. The room is created.

### From the Templates page

You can also start from the **Templates** page (left sidebar of the org-level dashboard), where every template in the workspace is listed. Each card surfaces the template's name, status (**Published** / **Draft**), usage count, last-modified date, and access scope (**Everyone** / **Limited**).

- **Hover** any template card to reveal a **Create a room** button (and a **⋮** menu for other actions). Click it to start the same name-and-confirm flow as above.
- Or open the template itself and use the **Create a room** button in its top-right header.

Katalyz copies the template's structure, widgets, and design settings into your new room. Nothing is linked — the new room is independent.

## What you get

The new room is a **full copy** of the template:
- Same **pages** and their order
- Same **sections** within each page
- Same **widgets** and content
- Same **task assignees** (task progress resets to "not done")
- Same **Design tab settings** (color palette, etc. — see [Per-room theme](https://katalyz.crisp.help/en/article/per-room-theme-1hv9i4t/))
- Same **default language**

By default, you become the new room's **Owner** (room role) — but the Owner is one of the fields you can change during the creation flow, and you can reassign it from the room afterwards too. No one else has access until you invite them.

## Personalize before you share

Most personalization happens automatically through **variables**: any `$variable` in template copy resolves to the right value as soon as you fill in the underlying custom field on the room. See [Using variables in text](https://katalyz.crisp.help/en/article/using-variables-in-text-e33ha8/).

What's still on you:

1. **Add the buyer's logo** (prospect logo) — either search the brand via Brandfetch or upload manually. See [Prospect logo](https://katalyz.crisp.help/en/article/using-the-buyers-logo-19sptzs/).
2. **Add buyer-specific context** — challenges, meeting notes, discovery-call insights.
3. **Swap generic references** for customer stories or case studies that resonate with this buyer's situation.
4. **Review pricing** — make sure any numbers match the actual deal.
5. **Update the CTA** if it links to a specific booking calendar or meeting.

💡 **Tip** — Use **Presentation mode** (from the room menu in the top-left) to see the room as a buyer would before you share.

## Pricing for different buyers

If you need to show different pricing to different buyers, use **variables** (type `$` in a text widget) to reference custom fields like deal amount. See [Using variables in text](https://katalyz.crisp.help/en/article/using-variables-in-text-e33ha8/).

## Can I change which template a room was created from?

No. Once a room is created, it's independent. If you want to "re-apply" a newer version of the template, you'd need to create a fresh room and move content over manually.
