# What is the content library?

The **content library** is your workspace's shared pool of reusable files, links, and media — case studies, decks, demo videos, research reports, competitor intelligence. Anything your team uses across multiple rooms.

## Why a library (and not just templates)?

Templates and the library solve different problems.

| Templates | Content library |
|---|---|
| Save **entire room structures** (sections + widgets) | Save **individual assets** (files, links, media) |
| Used **at room creation** | Used **any time** — drop an asset into any room |
| Best for **proposals, kickoffs, QBRs** | Best for **case studies, decks, demos, reference links** |

You use a **template** when you want to build a whole room fast. You pull from the **library** when you want to add a specific piece of content to a room you're already building.

## What belongs in the library

Library items are assets — **files you've uploaded** or **links to external resources**. There's no item-type taxonomy: an asset is an asset (you tag it instead, see [Organizing library content](https://katalyz.crisp.help/en/article/organizing-library-content-1irx7d6/)).

**Good library candidates:**

- Customer case studies
- Product demo videos
- Sales decks
- Standard T&Cs and legal documents
- Competitor intelligence links
- Internal research dashboards
- Brand assets (logos, style guides)

**Bad library candidates:**

- Content that's always deal-specific (just add it directly to the room)
- Text snippets, headings, CTAs — these live inside rooms, not the library

## How it's organized

The library is a **flat, searchable list**. Filtering is done through:

- **Search** — by item name
- **Tags** — labels you apply to each item (e.g. `Sales`, `Q4`, `Enterprise`)

No folders. No pinning. The combination of search + tags handles most scale.

## Who can use it

**Browsing and adding library items to rooms:** any member (Admin, Pro, Basic).

**Adding new items, editing, or deleting library content:** Admins and Pro users.

## How items are used in rooms

When you add a library item to a room, it's **copied** into the room. The room gets its own independent version — editing the library version later doesn't update rooms that already reference the item.

This means the library is a **source of starter content**, not a live-linked system. If you update a case study in the library, existing rooms keep the old version; only new rooms created afterward get the updated one.
