Connecting Slack
Connect Slack so Katalyz notifications reach you (and your team) where you're already communicating.
⚠️ Requires org role Admin on the Katalyz side and on the Slack side (a Slack admin must be able to authorize the app in the Slack workspace).
Connection procedure
The integration is two-way: you have to both enable Slack on the Katalyz side and add Katalyz as an app inside Slack. One step alone isn't enough.
1. On the Katalyz side — enable Slack
- Go to Settings → Integrations.
- Find Slack in the list, click Connect.
- You're redirected to Slack for OAuth authorization.
2. On the Slack side — authorize and install the Katalyz app

2. Côté Slack — autoriser et installer l'app Katalyz
Step 1 lands you on Slack's OAuth authorization screen. This is where the app actually gets installed into your Slack workspace:
- Check the target Slack workspace. It's shown at the top-right of the authorization screen (under your avatar). If you belong to more than one Slack workspace, click it to switch to the right one before continuing — the wrong choice here installs Katalyz into the wrong workspace.
- Review the requested permissions. Slack lists everything Katalyz will be able to do (send messages, read basic workspace info, etc.).
- Click "Allow" at the bottom-right. Slack installs the app and redirects you back to Katalyz; the integration status flips to Connected.
- Verify the install on the Slack side: open your Slack client → in the left sidebar, expand the Apps section (or click More → Apps) — Katalyz should be listed. A DM with the Katalyz bot also appears under Direct Messages.
If "Allow" sends a request to a Slack admin instead of installing directly: your Slack workspace probably has App Management enabled, which requires an admin to approve new apps. The request goes to a Slack admin; once they click Approve, finish the OAuth on the Katalyz side. See Slack's docs on managing app installations.
Once both sides are done, Katalyz notifications arrive as direct messages from the Katalyz bot in Slack (there's no channel to configure — see Slack notifications).
⚠️ Common pitfalls
Free Slack — 10-app cap
On the free Slack tier, a workspace is capped at 10 installed apps. If you've already hit that limit, installing Katalyz will fail with an error on the Slack side.
Fixes:
- Uninstall an unused Slack app to free a slot, then retry the install from the Katalyz side.
- Or upgrade to a paid Slack plan (Pro, Business+, Enterprise) which lifts the cap.
This is the most common reason step 2 fails.
Permissions Katalyz requests
The Slack install screen surfaces the exact scopes Katalyz requests — the full canonical list will be published here ahead of GA.
Per-user notification preferences
Each user controls their own Slack notifications in Settings → Notifications. See Notification preferences.
