Synced section templates — update once, propagate everywhere
A synced section template is a section template that stays linked to its source when you drop it into a room. Edit the source once, and every room using the synced version updates automatically.
It's the opposite of the default behavior, where a section template is dropped as a copy that lives its own life from then on.
Built for evergreen content you maintain in one place — pricing, legal clauses, your team intro, an "about us" section — and want consistent across every room.
Sync vs. copy at a glance
Standard (copy) | Synced | |
|---|---|---|
When dropped into a room | Becomes a fresh independent copy | Stays linked to the source template |
Editable in the room | ✅ yes | ❌ no — read-only inside the room |
Updates to the source | Don't propagate | Propagate to every room using it |
Best for | One-off insertions, dealroom-specific tweaks | Evergreen content you maintain centrally |
Turn a section template into a synced template
- Open the section template (Templates → Section templates → pick one).
- At the top-right of the template editor, click the Synced / Not synced toggle.
- Confirm. The template is now marked Synced.

You can flip a synced template back to Not synced at any time. New rooms drop the template according to its current state at the time of insertion.
Add a synced template to a room
- Open any room in edit mode.
- On the floating build bar, click + Add section.
- Switch to the From a template tab.
- Pick the synced template and drop it onto the target page.
The section appears in the room with a small sync badge. Hover the section to see the badge — it confirms the section is linked to a template and reflects changes from the source.

Editing a synced section
You can't edit a synced section directly in the room — its content is governed by the source template. To change it, you have three options:
- Edit the source template — open the template, edit it once, and every room using the synced version updates. This is the main use case.
- Detach the section in the room — hover the section, click the sync badge, then Detach. The section becomes a regular editable copy in that one room (it stops receiving updates from the template).
- Flip the template to Not synced — affects only future insertions; sections already dropped as synced stay synced.
Synced templates inside room templates
You can include a synced section template inside a room template. When that room template is later used to create a new room, the synced section is dropped as a synced instance — keeping the central-update behavior. Detach in a specific room if you need to customize.
What can't be synced
Sections that contain time-sensitive, room-rooted content can't be made synced:
- Steps widgets — steps are anchored to a specific deal's timeline, dates, and assignees
- Timeline widget — same reason; phases, milestones, and steps are deal-specific
If you toggle Sync on a template that contains either of these, you'll see an explanatory error. Remove the Steps / Timeline widget, then re-toggle.
Other widgets (Text, Image, Video, Document, Link, Contact, CTA, Signature, Field, etc.) can all be part of a synced template.
Practical patterns
- Pricing — one synced template per plan; raise prices in one place
- Legal — Standard MSA / DPA — one source of truth; edits propagate to every deal in flight
- Team intro / Your team at Acme — one synced section across all your rooms; swap a CSM photo once
- Product overview — keep messaging consistent as positioning evolves
- Compliance / security one-pager — update SOC 2 status everywhere with one edit
