What is a template?
Katalyz has two kinds of templates — both let your team reuse what already works:
- Room templates — a full pre-built room (pages + sections + widgets + design). Use when you want to start a new room from a proven structure.
- Section templates (micro-templates) — a reusable section you can drop into any existing room from the + Add section popover on the floating build bar (under the From a template tab). Use when you want to add a recurring piece of content into an already-built room.

Why templates matter
The teams that get the most out of Katalyz have two things in common: they send a lot of rooms, and they send rooms that look consistent. Templates make both possible without burning out your reps.
Without templates:
- Every rep builds from scratch
- Room quality varies wildly
- New reps take weeks to ramp
- Your best content (case studies, messaging) stays locked in one rep's inbox
With templates:
- Reps start from a proven starting point
- Quality is consistent across the team
- New reps ramp in days instead of weeks
- Your best content is reused automatically
What a room template contains
A room template stores:
- Pages and their order
- Sections within each page
- All widgets inside each section (text, videos, CTAs, signature placeholders, etc.)
- Visibility settings on pages and sections
- Design tab settings — for now, the color palette (see Per-room theme for how the workspace → template → room cascade works)
- Default language
What a template doesn't contain
Templates are not linked to the rooms created from them. A template is a snapshot at a point in time:
- No participants
- No activity
- No CRM sync data
- Task structure and assignees are preserved, but progress resets (everything starts as "not done")
- Updating the template later does not update rooms already created from it
Where to find templates
- Room templates live on the Templates page in the left sidebar of the org-level dashboard.
- Section templates are available from the + Add section popover on the floating build bar inside any room you're editing (open the From a template tab).
When you click + New room, you first choose between Quick start (one room) and Advanced creation (one or more rooms in a single flow). Either choice opens the template gallery where you pick a card — or click + Start from scratch (top-right) to skip templates. You can also launch the create flow from the Templates page itself: hover a card and click Create a room. See Using a template to create a room for the full flow.
Who can do what with templates
Action | Org role required |
|---|---|
Use a published template to create a room | Admin or Pro (Basic users can't create rooms at all) |
Create a template | Admin or Pro |
Edit any template | Admin |
Edit a template you created | Pro (own templates only) |
A template must be published before it can be used to create a new room.
Three ways to create a template
- From scratch — build directly from a blank canvas
- By duplicating an existing template and editing from there
- By saving an existing room as a template (usually the easiest — take a room that already works well and save it)
Common room templates teams build
- Sales proposal — solution overview, pricing, next steps, signature
- Mutual action plan — milestones, tasks, meeting cadence
- Kickoff / onboarding — welcome video, team contacts, project plan
- QBR (quarterly business review) — usage metrics, wins, roadmap
- Renewal — impact recap, pricing, contract
- RFP response — structured answer sections
Common section templates teams build
- Case study widgets (one per reference customer)
- "Your team" contact cards
- Pricing narratives per tier
- Legal clauses (MSA, DPA)
- Welcome video widgets
