Ask AI: your assistant inside a room

Ask AI is the Katalyz assistant. Inside a room it reads the room's content and activity, answers questions, drafts and edits content, and proposes changes you review before they land. AI is included in the Core plan — most actions are free, and the ones that generate content use credits from your workspace balance.

⚠️ Ask AI is available to members editing a room (Owner or Editor). It never appears in presentation mode or to buyers.

AI can make mistakes. Check important info. Everything the assistant produces is a proposal — read it before you apply or send it.

Opening the assistant

Two ways in:

  1. The Ask AI launcher — a round button pinned bottom-right of every page, inside rooms and on the dashboard. Click it to open the AI panel.
  2. Ask AI about this — select any section or block in the editor. The selection pill shows a gradient AI chip; click it to open the panel with that section or block attached as context.

The panel opens as a right-side drawer and the room shifts left to make room. Only one drawer is open at a time — opening Ask AI closes the Comments or Notifications drawer, and vice versa. Close it with the ✕ in the panel header.

What the panel contains

Conversations list

The panel opens on your conversations for this room, with a search box and quick actions:

  • Summarize this room — where the deal currently stands
  • What needs attention? — what to look at in this room right now
  • Suggest next steps — how to move the deal forward
  • Draft a follow-up — a message for the people in this room

Each quick action starts a new conversation. You can also type anything in the composer at the bottom — "Ask anything — sends as a new conversation". Hover a conversation to delete it.

A conversation

Open a conversation to see the thread. The assistant shows three animated dots while it works. Messages that refer to a section or block carry a context chip (for example Pricing → Text). Press Enter to send and Shift + Enter for a new line.

When you started from Ask AI about this, the section or block stays attached to the thread. Reopening the chip on the same section brings you back to the same conversation with its history.

Anchored threads

Once a section or block has an AI thread, an anchor pin appears in its top-right corner when you hover it. The pin shows how many threads exist there; click it to reopen them.

Applying a generated version

When the assistant produces content for a block, the message shows an Apply to block button. Click it to push the version into the block; the button turns into Applied ✓. Until you apply, nothing changes in the room and buyers see nothing.

If you close the panel while a generation is still running, a toast tells you AI is still generating and then Your AI version is ready — click it to reopen the panel and apply.

Suggestions

Besides answering you, the assistant proposes changes on its own: an updated block, a refreshed section, a new section after a call. They appear in the Suggestions view of the panel, with a banner "N suggestions awaiting review" while some are pending. See Reviewing AI suggestions.

What Ask AI costs

  • Chatting, quick actions and reviewing suggestions are free.
  • Generating a room or a template uses credits, priced by the model quality you pick — see Generating a room with AI.
  • The Home page flows (attention triage, meeting summaries, follow-up drafts) use credits per action — see Your Home page and AI assistant.

The AI side panel shows how much of this month's allowance is left. See How credits work.

What happened to the AI block?

Earlier versions of Katalyz had an AI block widget (beta) that generated HTML from a brief. It has been retired: AI is now an action on your content, not a kind of content. You point at any block or section and ask the assistant to edit it. Rooms that still contain an AI block keep working — select it and use the AI chip to reopen its thread, then Apply to block.
